Eligibility Requirements:

Current NYC Department of Education Family Worker with a High School Diploma and satisfactory service for 2 previous years.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth, special education population and/or students in temporary housing.
  • Demonstrated group management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
  • Proficiency with ATS system.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Currently assigned to a Family Shelter preferred.
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate STH after-school and extracurricular programs.
  • Provide outreach to students and families to encourage their participation in NYC Department of Education programs.
  • Provide assistance on ad hoc projects under the direction of STH program staff.
  • Position involves working in shelters and working on weekends, as needed.

Salary:

  • As per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Work Schedule:

  • September 2018 – June 2019
  • After school Monday – Sunday, up to 25 hours/week (as needed.)
  • No school holidays.

Service exceeding the number of hours specified in the Chancellor's Regulation C-175 governing per session activities requires prior approval. The appropriate Per Session Supervisor must make the request via the Per Session Service System and receive approval before the person can begin working in the activity. Failure to obtain a valid waiver may result in the withholding of payment for hours worked beyond the maximum.
