Eligibility Requirements:

NYC DOE Licensed and Appointed Teachers

Selection Criteria:

  • NYC DOE Licensed and Appointed Teachers
  • Preference will be given to teachers from schools participating in NYC Men Teach program
  • Knowledge of high school graduation requirements
  • Knowledge of state and city academic policy
  • First or Second year teacher in the DOE
  • Can identify with the experience of male educators of color
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and collaboratively on projects


  • Under the supervision of licensed pedagogical personnel, once selected Anchors agree to:
  • Attend and participate in:
  • NYC Men Teach Anchor orientation in Summer or Fall of 2018
  • Mentor-Anchor Matching Event in Fall 2018
  • Support meetings with NYC Men Teach Mentor teachers Quarterly community events
  • NYC Men Teach Spring Showcase in Spring 2019
  • Actively participate in NYC Men Teach workshops
  • Create curricula and resources for members of the NYC Men Teach community; test and pilot units
  • Co-plan/organize school-based events to support the NYC Men Teach Program
  • Show investment in NYC Men Teach goals and the success of participating teachers
  • Respond in a timely manner (within 48 hours) to participant and staff inquiries and requests
  • Communicate with Mentors at a minimum of two-times per month
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate classroom inter-visitations at a minimum of two-times during the school year


  • As per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Work Schedule:

September 2018-June 2019 (Approximately 60 hours depending upon funding availability)

Service exceeding the number of hours specified in the Chancellor's Regulation C-175 governing per session activities requires prior approval. The appropriate Per Session Supervisor must make the request via the Per Session Service System and receive approval before the person can begin working in the activity. Failure to obtain a valid waiver may result in the withholding of payment for hours worked beyond the maximum.
