POSITION:

Content Leadership Team: Assistant Principal, (Approximately 5-8 positions)

LOCATION:

Adult Education Schools/Programs throughout the five boroughs

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

NYCDOE Licensed and Appointed Principal/Assistant Principals with a valid NY State Certification

SELECTION CRITERIA:

• Currently a Satisfactory Principal/Assistant Principal with the New York City Department of Education

• Demonstrate ability to work with school-base staff

• NYSED TABE and/or Best Plus, and/or Best Literacy certification is required

• Strong content knowledge of Math, Literacy, Science, Social Studies and/or ESL

• Familiarity with the NRS levels, and College and Career and Readiness Standards for Adult Education

• Exceptional leadership and collaborative skills

• Willingness to reflect on and share practice

• Strong word processing and writing skills

• Familiar with a wide array of resources and instructional tools align to adult learners

• Experience collaborating with supervisors and teachers

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan professional development using the College and Career and Readiness Standards for Adult Education

• Analyze a range of resources to determine core skills by NRS, ABE and ESL levels

• Identify core competencies and content skills for Math, Literacy, Social Studies, Science and ESL

• Align lessons, units of study, and end-of-unit tasks in Math, Literacy, Social Studies, Science and ESL with the

College and Career and Readiness Standards for Adult Education

• Use Webb’s Depth of Knowledge framework to evaluate curriculumī€ 

• Utilize http://teachingtothecoreny.org/ and http://www.collectedny.org/ to develop topics, instructional

objectives and appropriate NRS appropriate activities in Math, Literacy, Social Studies, Science and ESL College

and Career Readiness Learning Standards

• Serve as instructional mentor/role models for program staff by leading professional development sessions

• Assess the effectiveness of tools and resources currently used in adult education

• Determine appropriate texts using NRS benchmarks for BE and ESL courses

• Engage in a variety of Common Core-aligned tasks

• Identify and gather resources for all levels

• Build a culture of peer learning and support through a collaborative structure to visit peer classrooms and examine student work to refine units and lessons.

WORK SCHEDULE:

October 1st, 2019 – June 30, 2020 (approx. 400 hours)

ADDITIONAL HOURS GRANTED UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE HIRING MANAGER.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (UFT, CSA, DC-37 - Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent Upon Funding Availability.
