POSITION:                 

Specialized High School Admissions Test Prep Teacher Professional Learning Leader

(Anticipated number of positions: approximately 10)

 

DREAM – The Specialized High Schools Institute (DREAM – SHSI) is an extracurricular program of rigorous coursework designed to assist eligible NYC public and private school students in preparing for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT).  DREAM – SHSI coursework emphasizes English language arts and math skills, problem-solving, critical analysis, time management, and test-taking strategies specific to the SHSAT.  (Citywide Program)

 

LOCATION:                

Various locations citywide

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:          

Open to licensed NYCDOE grades 6-12 full-time Mathematics, English, Science or Social Studies teachers. (Grades 6-12 Mathematics or English teachers preferred)

                                                                                 

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

1.             Successful experience preparing students for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT)

2.             A demonstrated ability to motivate, stimulate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic standards

3.             Experience presenting to adult learners and leading professional learning preferred

4.             Knowledge of test-taking skills and strategies

5.             Successful experience course-planning and creating unit plans for SHSAT prep

6.             An understanding of the principles of adult learning

 

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:           

1.             Assist DREAM instructional staff to create professional learning for new and experienced SHSAT-prep teachers

2.             Develop and draft unit plans and pacing guide for the SHSAT prep program.

3.             Facilitate professional learning for new and experienced SHSAT prep teachers

4.             Analyze potential curricular materials Review potential curricular materials and ensure alignment with DREAM instructional goals

5.             Create professional learning materials for new and experienced SHSAT-prep teachers

6.             Manage on-line learning communities for SHSAT prep teachers

 

WORK SCHEDULE:   

December 2019/January 2020

•              3-4 professional learning planning sessions-December 2019 (Exact date to be determined)

•              Lead Professional Learning-Saturday, January 11, 2020

•              Special events and professional development to be scheduled as required

•              Additional work hours may be required on need-basis

May/June 2020

•              4-5 professional learning planning sessions (Exact dates to be determined)

•              Additional work hours may be required on need-basis

 

     Maximum of 45 hours per position

 

ADDITIONAL HOURS GRANTED UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE HIRING MANAGER.

 

SALARY:                     

Per Session rates as per the UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Contingent Upon Funding Availability. (UFT or relevant Union/Organization).
