ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant should be:

  • NYC Department of Education license and appointment as a NYCDOE Paraprofessional.
  • As a part of the Division of Early Childhood, NYC Thrive includes programmatic and family supports for social emotional skill-building in Pre-K for All programs. A subset of programs in the Thrive Professional Learning series will have the opportunity to implement ParentCorps for students and their families in 2019-2020. ParentCorps is an evidence-based enhancement for pre-K programs that supports leaders, teachers and parents to strengthen family engagement and create safe, nurturing and predictable environments at home and in pre-K classrooms. Eligible school staff in these programs may apply.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Knowledge and skill in child behavior management.
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other early childhood educators and mental health professionals to support child development and family engagement.
  • Evidence of satisfactory performance ratings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated success in completing administrative responsibilities.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in ParentCorps Professional Learning opportunities (e.g. ParentCorps FUNdamentals, Champion Training, Parenting Program Training, Friends School Training or Sustainability Training) in July or August 2019 at the NYU School of Medicine (Midtown Manhattan). Trained staff will be eligible to implement ParentCorps programs in their early childhood program in 2019-20.
  • ParentCorps professional learning opportunities are led by ParentCorps Academy in the Center for Early Childhood Health and Development at NYU School of Medicine. ParentCorps professional learning opportunities cover a comprehensive set of evidence-based strategies to promote safe, nurturing and predictable home and classroom experiences for young children, engage and support communities of parents and early childhood staff, and strengthen children’s learning, behavior and health. ParentCorps professional learning opportunities are fully interactive, with didactic presentations and demonstrations, hands-on activities, discussions, role plays and direct practice applications of strategies. The professional learning days focus on the successful implementation of ParentCorps, including evidence-based practices and tools for family engagement, and social emotional evidence-based practices, such as proactive measures, positive reinforcement and responsive strategies.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • 1-7 days in July or August 2019.
  • Estimated 7 hours per day

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement. Contingent Upon Funding Availability. (UFT or relevant Union/Organization).
