School Social Worker (2 positions)

 

LOCATION:                

Office of Safety and Youth Development

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:          

New York City Department of Education licensed and appointed School Social Worker.  You must also have been rated Satisfactory (S) for the past 3 years and have a satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality.                                                                                                                                         

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

Masters level social worker, LCSW preferred, with experience in and knowledge of the following:

•              Understanding of diversity and sensitivity to differences in cultures and family structures

•              Training and experience in the provision of family counseling assessments, counseling and referrals

•              Understanding of and experience with vulnerable populations

•              Demonstrated knowledge of LGBT community and issues effecting LGBT families

•              Knowledge of homeless/runaway youth, Administration of Children’s Services (ACS), foster care

•              Demonstrated knowledge of religious, cultural, racial, gender and sexuality diversities

•              Understanding of trauma and the effect of poverty on young people

•              Eagerness to learn new skills and commitment to attend professional development activities

•              Knowledge about assessment, educational planning, transition services, and effective intervention strategies

•              Knowledge about community resources or other available services to assist students and their families in address problems affecting their social, emotional, physical and/or behavioral functioning

•              Experience working with or willingness to work with high-need and at-risk students and their families

•              Knowledge of DOE policies and procedures

•              Demonstrated success in initiating and maintaining open communications with students and families

•              Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other professional staff

•              Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

 

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:            

•              Collaborate with all OCSP and OSYD staff and coordinate services for 2019-2020 school year

•              Make community presentations: provide outreach to families at various parent/community forums on topics related to resources, skills and self-empowerment techniques.

•              Collaborate with the Division of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) and OCSP to create parent facing documents; co-plan parent workshops and Parent Coordinators trainings

•              Provide central/district workshops to educate staff/administration 

•              Train DOE staff and administration on topics related to LGBT and other vulnerable populations

 

WORK SCHEDULE:   

July 2019 - August 2019

Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. No holidays or weekends

HOURS UP TO, BUT NOT LIMITED TO APPROXIMATELY TBD HOURS. ADDITIONAL HOURS GRANTED UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE HIRING MANAGER.

 

SALARY:                     

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (UFT, CSA, DC-37 - Collective Bargaining Agreement).  Contingent Upon Funding Availability.
