POSITION:

Teacher: General Education or Speech Teacher – Summer in the City - Summer Reading Program

LOCATION:

Various locations citywide

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Currently employed as a licensed General Education Teacher or Speech Teacher in a District School

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  1. Selection for this position will be in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (the “CBA”), from among those applicants who meet the posting qualifications.
  2. Teachers not covered by advance in the last two school years, require satisfactory ratings from September 1, 2017 through June 30, 2019
    • Teachers covered by Advance in 2017 – 2019, require a rating of Highly Effective, Effective or Developing
    • Teachers with a combination of Advance and Non-Advance during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years must have received satisfactory or Highly Effective, Effective or Developing rating
    • Teachers covered by Advance, no substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OSI or SCI investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges within the past three years
  3. Regularly licensed and appointed teacher of Special Education currently assigned to a school student population.
  4. Satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality, Preferred;
  5. Time spent in co-teaching environment preferred
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of techniques and approaches with students with disabilities
  7. Demonstrated successful experience working with students with academic, social and/or emotional difficulties and/or communication disorders
  8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school administration and staff.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide targeted instruction in an Integrated Co-Teaching environment to general education and students with disabilities in order to support reading acquisition and prevent further reading regression;
  2. Execute all goals and expected outcomes of the Early Grade (K &1) Summer Intensive Reading Program;
    • Collaborate with co-teaching partner to adapt and modify Summer in the City Passport to Social Studies Curriculum and other curriculum materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities;
    • Contribute to and collaborate with pilot team members in planning, implementation and assessment of student progress.
    • Differentiate learning based on the needs of individual students;
  3. Administration of curriculum-based assessments for typically developing and “at-risk” general education students;
  4. Maintain careful record of assessment and development of each pupil.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Instructional Days: July 2019 to August 2019 (exact dates to be determined), Student Instruction 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM; Monday through Thursday; Ongoing coaching, professional development and collaborative planning and curriculum preparation until 2:30 PM - up to 5.5 hours per day (30 minutes of unpaid lunch).

Professional Development: Pre-service professional development is mandated for teachers who did not work the activity in the summer 2018, optional for teachers who were previously trained during the summer 2018 and will be held on June 27 and 28, 2019.

Professional development will be compensated at the per session contractual rate.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (UFT, CSA, DC-37 - Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent Upon Funding Availability.
