School Wellness Council – Focus Group Member (up to 10 positions)

New York City Department of Education

Long Island City, NY 11101

 

Or other approved Office of School Wellness Programs locations

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed and Appointed New York City Department of Education Teacher

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Knowledge and practical experience sustaining a successful School Wellness Council
  • Demonstrate effective leadership at systematically prioritizing health and wellness as cornerstones of school culture, including establishing goals, programs, and policies.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with the programs and services offered by the Office of School Wellness Programs
  • Preference may be given to current School Wellness Council Champions, School Wellness Council Mentors, MTI All-stars, and/or Health Education Focus School champions
  • Knowledge and proficiency using the School Wellness Portal
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and articulate best practices for School Wellness Councils including wellness policies, initiatives, and resources to be shared with NYC schools. This may include existing materials and providing input on how to improve it for the larger School Wellness Council community.
  • Identify mentoring needs, and share best practices and general feedback on the School Wellness Council Mentor program.
  • Develop school wellness guidance tools to be shared with NYC schools citywide on the online School Wellness Portal.
  • Share experiences and expertise as an advisor related to how wellness can work in schools.
  • Participate in meetings, focus groups, conference calls, and/or other Advisory Board activities to the fullest extent possible.

 

SALARY:                    

Per Session rates as per the UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

WORK SCHEDULE:                              

  • July 9, 2018 – October 5, 2018.
  • Between the hours of 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m in July/ August, afterschool hours in September. (Up to 8hours per position) per position)
  • Specific hours and schedules are not guaranteed. Schedule to be determined and will remain subject to change based on project and funding ability.
