POSITION:                 

DREAM Teacher: Teachers to teach Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) preparation in math and ELA to seventh graders.

(Teachers who have retention rights in the Dream Summer Program will retain retention rights.)

 

DREAM SHSI is an extracurricular program of rigorous coursework designed to assist eligible rising 8th grade students in preparing for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT).  DREAM coursework emphasizes learning ELA and math strategies needed for the SHSAT, solving problems under timed conditions, and practice with SHSAT questions.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:          

Appointed NYC Department of Education certified teachers of middle or high school teachers of English, mathematics, science, social studies or special education with a NYS certificate in the subject area for grades 7 - 12. Teachers presently working at the high school level are preferred.

                                                                                                                                                 

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

  1. Teachers not covered by Advance in the last two school years, require satisfactory ratings from September 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020
  2. Teachers covered by Advance in 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 require a rating of Highly Effective, Effective or Developing
  3. Teachers with a combination of Advance and Non-Advance during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years must have received satisfactory or Highly Effective, Effective or Developing ratings
  4. Teachers covered by Advance, no substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OSI or SCI investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges within the past three years
  5. Demonstrated ability to motivate, stimulate and challenge all students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic standards and experience with modifying curriculum in order to meet the needs of your students
  6. Demonstrated dedication to equity, making sure that all students receive the support they need to achieve a common standard
  7. An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the complex emotional, social and academic needs of middle school students
  8. Excellent classroom management skills
  9. Knowledge of test-taking skills and strategies with previous satisfactory experience preparing students for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), PSAT, SATs and/or other advanced level tests, preferred
  10. Knowledge of quality remote instructional practices, including use of different technology to deliver synchronous and asynchronous instruction 
  11. Previous satisfactory experience teaching advanced level classes on the middle school, junior high school or high school level preferred as well as a documented record of excellent attendance and punctuality

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Implement a test preparation curriculum that combines SHSAT-specific test taking strategies with rigorous content, and deliver the curriculum through synchronous and asynchronous online instruction for remote learning
  2. Analyze student work and SHSAT practice results to plan engaging, differentiated lessons that lead to student academic growth
  3. Participate in program-wide curriculum design and preparation, including creating online lessons, as required
  4. Confer with Site Supervisors and others in matters pertaining to instruction, students and family support
  5. Prepare progress reports for each student and maintain accurate student records, including attendance
  6. Participate in regularly scheduled DREAM site and student conferencing meetings
  7. Attend pre-program orientation and training meetings, as scheduled

 

WORK SCHEDULE:   

Instructional Days: Saturdays commencing Saturday, September 12, 2020 to Saturday, October 31, 2020

Instructional Hours:  8:30am – 1:00pm

 

HOURS UP TO, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF HOURS LISTED. ADDITIONAL HOURS GRANTED UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE HIRING MANAGER.

 

SALARY:                     

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (UFT, CSA, DC-37 - Collective Bargaining Agreement).  Contingent Upon Funding Availability.
