POSITION:                 

NYC Men Teach Professional Affinity Community (PAC) Mentor, Office of Teacher Development

 

LOCATION:                

New York City Department of Education, various locations citywide

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:          

NYC DOE Licensed and Appointed Principals and Assistant Principals                                                                                                                                     

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

  • NYCDOE Licensed and appointed Supervisor
  • Preference will be given to Supervisors from schools participating in the NYCMT program
  • Can identify with the experience of male educators of color, or have experience mentoring males of color Retirees who meet the eligibility requirements can also apply
  • Commitment to work during the agreed upon schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and collaboratively on projects Demonstrated qualities of organizational and program management skills
  • Evidence of sound interpersonal relationships with colleagues and/or professional partners
  • Show investment in NYC Men Teach goals and the success of participating teachers
  • Attend and participate in:
    • NYC Men Teach Mentor orientation in Spring of 2020
    • DOE Mentor Certification Course
    • Mentor-Anchor Matching Event in Fall 2020 (tentatively 9/14)
    • Provide documentation of good-standing within the DOE and/or school network
  • Provide documentation of good-standing within the DOE and/or school network

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the supervision of licensed pedagogical personnel, once selected, Mentors agree to:
    • Lead and facilitate monthly professional affinity community sessions with Anchor teachers throughout the school year
    • Participate in paid training sessions during summer 2020 to support PAC leadership and facilitation (July 22 - July 26)
    • Attend, co-plan, and potentially co-facilitate orientation opportunities for NYC Men Teach Teachers 
    • Attend monthly PAC planning meetings/mentor trainings in coordination with NYC Men Teach program team
    • Commit to supporting NYC Men Teach teachers and the NYC Men Teach community by participating in additional coaching, professional development, and collaboration sessions during the 2020-2021 school year, as needed
    • Be invested in NYC Men Teach goals and the success of participating teachers
    • Respond in a timely manner (within 48 hours) to participant and staff inquiries and requests
    • Provide feedback and implement improvements to NYC Men Teach program
    • Attend and actively participate in monthly community-wide training sessions
    • Be employed by NYC DOE through the 2020-2021 school year
    • Track and report Anchor participation and engagement

 

WORK SCHEDULE:   

September 2020 – June 2021 (Approximately 60 hours depending upon funding availability)

 

HOURS UP TO, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF HOURS LISTED. ADDITIONAL HOURS GRANTED UPON THE APPROVAL OF THE HIRING MANAGER.

 

SALARY:                     

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (UFT, CSA, DC-37 - Collective Bargaining Agreement).  Contingent Upon Funding Availability.
