(CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING)

 

POSITION:             

Social Studies Civics Curriculum Writer for Grades K-2, 3-5, or 9-12 (Approximately 30 positions)

 

LOCATION:           

Tweed Courthouse, 52 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10007

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:             

Regularly licensed and appointed New York City Department of Education common branch or social studies teachers.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:                         

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience (within the last three years) in grade(s) K-2, 3-5, or 9-12 social studies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NYC Passport to Social Studies Curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality social studies activities and lessons consistent with the Passport to Social Studies curriculum, NYC Social Studies Scope & Sequence, NYS SS Framework, and NYS Next Generation Literacy Standards in Social Studies and History
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues
  • Excellent written communication, organizational, and computer literacy skills
  • Minimum of 3 years satisfactory ratings
  • Satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft lesson plans and activities related to Civics and Civics Participation to align with the NYC Social Studies Scope & Sequence, NYC Passport to Social Studies curriculum and the NYS Social Studies Framework.
  • Participate in all training and curriculum writing sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with other writers and program staff.
  • Develop and submit required group and/or individual assignment(s).

 

SALARY:                

As per UFT Collective Bargaining agreement (per session)

 

WORK SCHEDULE:               

From September 2018 – June 30, 2019: One day a week after-school and two Saturdays a month, as well as weekdays during school breaks
