POSITION:             

Human Resource Assistant - Certification Specialist (Up to 10 positions)

 

REPORTS TO:       

CERTIFICATION UNIT MANAGER

(May include traveling to Field Support Centers or other NYCDOE locations as needed)

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:             

New York City Department of Education licensed and appointed teacher with three (3) continuous years of satisfactory/effective ratings in their regular position as well as satisfactory service in their per session position.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:        

  1. Proficiency in counseling current NYCDOE teachers and pupil personnel service area whose certificate is due to expire or expiring and facing removal from payroll regarding certification
  2. Ability to review and counsel the general public with certification issues via Certification Unit Hotline
  3. Knowledge of New York State Teacher certification requirements before and after May 1, 2014
  4. Knowledge of resources for teachers (workshops, exams, coursework, etc.)
  5. Knowledge of the Basic Education Data Survey
  6. Extensive knowledge of the High Objective Uniform State Standard of Evaluation (HOUSSE) Rubric
  7. Extensive knowledge with Special Education reform
  8. Extensive knowledge in reviewing the New Hire Report established for school opening
  9. Extensive knowledge of NYCDOE and NYSED web based computer applications such as: NYCAPS, Teacher Support Network (TSN), DHR Exchange, Microsoft Outlook and the NYSED TEACH inquiry system
  10. Extensive knowledge of the NYSED Mentor Regulation
  11. Excellent Computer Skills, including Microsoft Applications and Outlook email
  12. Extensive knowledge of New York State Regulations for Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE)
  13. Expansive availability throughout the per session year
  14. Work collaboratively with Field Services in reviewing NYCAPS service history and various HR Reports
  15. Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
  16. Excellent organizational skills, including follow up
  17. Ability to travel to job fairs, teacher recruitment workshops etc.

DETERMINATION:                

All candidates will be required to attend a series of training sessions and refresher workshops.  You will be assessed as to your understanding of the selection criteria listed above.  Certification Unit Manager will be held responsible to rate you based on your job performance, availability and attendance.

 

SALARY:

As per Collective Bargaining Agreement $50.13 per hour or most current contractual rate. Training rate is $22.83 per hour.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:             

  1. The activity will commence on July 1, 2018 and conclude on June 30, 2019
  2. Hours will be scheduled as follows:
    1. Summer: Between Monday and Friday, between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (as needed)
    2. School Year: Between Monday and Friday, between the hours of 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (as needed)
    3. RETIREES currently in the position (holding retention rights) will be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, between Monday and Friday, during the school year (as needed).Additional hours as needed and subject to funding availability.
    4. Weekends as needed

    NOTE: Scheduled hours are NOT guaranteed.  Hours are scheduled by the Certification Unit Manager and may vary based on the need for office coverage. 

     

  3. Mandatory training and meetings will be provided throughout the year (may include weekends)
  4. Employees must be able to commit to work six (6) weeks during the months of July and August
  5. No vacation days are permitted between August 19 and September 16. Any vacation requests will require prior approval from the Certification Unit Manager
  6. Schedule changes will not be permitted without the consent/approval of the Certification Unit Manager
  7. The maximum number of hours per position is based on budget availability
  8. Must provide ten (10) or more days of availability per month
