Pathways and Opportunities for Uncertified Aspiring Teachers
One of the country’s largest and most recognized urban alternative certification programs, New York City Teaching Fellows prepares career-changers and recent college graduates to teach subjects in high demand. More than one-fifth of the city’s math, science and special education teachers are New York City Teaching Fellows.
The New York City Teaching Collaborative prepares talented, committed individuals from diverse backgrounds to teach in high-need schools. Partner Teachers begin residency-style training in January, working alongside experienced mentor teachers and receiving intensive coaching for four months before teaching in the fall.
Pathways to PE is a new alternative certification program designed to recruit and train committed individuals with a demonstrated interested in fitness and education to become fully-certified Physical Education (PE) teachers in DOE schools each September.
NYC Early Education Centers (NYCEECs) are community-based, independent organizations that contract with the DOE to provide free, full day, high-quality early childhood programs. Our Village Pathway Programs are designed to provide opportunities for those who feel that they could benefit from gaining more experience in a school setting before (or while) they apply for an alternative or traditional pathway.
