Summer COVID Guidance

As a reminder, COVID-19 testing consent is not required to participate in Summer Rising programs.

Surveillance Testing

Surveillance testing will continue weekly for students in grades 1-8 beginning the week of July 11 and will take place Monday through Thursday from 9:00am-12:00pm. Testing will include the equivalent of 10% of students in Grades 1-8 in each building. Up to 10% of staff in the building including DYCD staff, may be tested after student testing is completed. All students and staff must be consented in order to be tested.

Consent provided in the 2021-22 school year is valid for Summer Rising 2022. All families with students in grades 1-8 can choose to participate in the program by completing the online form in their NYC Schools Account by June 22, 2022. After this date, please download, print and return a signed paper consent form to your Summer Rising location. Paper consent forms will also be available for pick up at your Summer Rising school location, and will need to be completed, signed and returned to your school-based staff before a student can be tested.

Please see the COVID-19 Testing for Students page for more information about providing consent.

Completion of health screening will still be required for all students, staff, and visitors to enter DOE buildings.

At-home Test Kits

Starting July 5, all students in grades K-12 who exhibit COVID-like symptoms at school or have been exposed to COVID-19 in a classroom setting will receive two tests for use at home. Any staff member who exhibits COVID-like symptoms at school or has been exposed to COVID-19 in a classroom setting will receive two tests for use at home. Any remote high school students will be told where they can pick up tests, if necessary. Additional tests will be made available as needed.

Ventilation

All classrooms will have air conditioning and 2 air purifiers. Please visit the School Building Ventilation Status page for additional information.

School Nurse

A nurse will be on-site in every building being used for Summer Rising.

Visitor Policy

All visitors must show proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination to enter a DOE school building. Visitors do not include students attending school or school related activities in a DOE school building. The visitor policy guidance may be found on the Health and Safety in Our Schools page.

Face Coverings

Face coverings are strongly recommended to be worn when indoors, especially when the City is in medium or above alert level.

Please see the Health and Safety in Our Schools page for current guidance.
