Parent Empowerment Listening Tour

The Mayor and the Chancellor speak to parents in the Gym of PS 19 in Corona, Queens

The Mayor and Chancellor have embarked on a five-borough parent empowerment tour to hear first-hand from parent leaders about their priorities for the school system. These events were held at schools around the city.

Appointed and elected parent leaders from across each borough communicated their thoughts, questions, and concerns and heard about the new vision for the school system from the Mayor and Department of Education Leadership.

“As a former public school parent and school board member, ensuring that all of our City’s children regardless of zip code have access to an excellent education is my priority,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We’re excited to kick off this tour to hear directly from parents and community leaders about the issues that matter most to them.”
Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza said: “We will only achieve equity and excellence for all by partnering with communities, and Mayor de Blasio and I share a commitment to true parent empowerment. I’m looking forward to hitting the road with the Mayor and talking to parent leaders at these new forums across all five boroughs. This is part of our work to provide the infrastructure and systems for our parents to be empowered and active, particularly in historically underserved communities.”
