The Fall 2020 School Experience Survey was a formative assessment tool intended to gather feedback about families, students and teachers’ experiences and needs during the 2020-21 school year to date as these relate to remote learning, communication, technology use and in person health, safety, and instruction for those students and teachers who attended school or worked in-person at any point this school year. The survey was comprised of three surveys: a parent/guardian survey, a student survey and a teacher survey.

What was the purpose of the Fall 2020 School Experience Survey?

The purpose of administering the Fall 2020 School Experience Survey was to collect feedback from families, students and teachers about remote learning, communication, technology use and in person health, safety, and instruction for those students and teachers who attended school or worked in-person at any point this school year. The feedback will help school administrators and the NYC DOE overall to continue to deepen their knowledge of what students, families and teachers need and their current learning environment in order to inform planning for the rest of the school year.

The survey was open from Tuesday, January 19, 2021 through Friday, February 5, 2021.

How will survey results be used?

To ensure survey data could be used in a timely manner, live results and response rates were available throughout the administration window via the Panorama Education platform, as soon as a minimum number of survey responses was reached for each survey respondent group respectively. The data is intended to help schools improve the remote and in-person learning experience in the spring semester.
