Swipe for "Extra Credit" with the MTA!
Who knew a MetroCard swipe could be so rewarding?!
Thanks to our friends at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), we have exciting news for New York City's high school students who travel to school with a student MetroCard—your swipes could win you a Meta Quest 2!
Through the MTA's new "Extra Credit" initiative, current City high school students who swipe their student MetroCards during the school week are automatically entered into a citywide raffle for one of five Meta Quest 2 virtual reality (VR) headsets units that the MTA is giving away every week for four weeks beginning May 20—this means that every swipe of your student MetroCard during the school week increases your chances of winning.

Who’s Eligible?
All high school students in grades 9–12 across the city's five boroughs are eligible to participate. Students need to use the cards themselves as they travel to and from school. Only swipes made on weekdays from 6 AM to 9 AM in the morning and 2 PM to 5 PM in the afternoon will be eligible for entries.
What's the Purpose of the Initiative?
The MTA's Extra Credit initiative encourages MetroCard usage among students while also helping them to develop positive swiping habits.
How Will We Know Who Won?
The MTA will announce the last seven digits of the winners’ MetroCard’s serial number on their webpage mta.info/extracredit. To claim their prizes, winning students must travel with a legal guardian to the MTA's headquarters at 2 Broadway in Manhattan. Prize collection is available Monday through Friday, from 3 PM to 5:30 PM. Note that guardians will be asked to sign a "Release form and receipt" to claim their student's headset.
For an updated list of winners, as well as terms and conditions of the MTA's Extra Credit initiative, please visit the MTA’s website at mta.info/extracredit.
