Beyond Access Series

The Beyond Access Series is presented by the New York City Department of Education's Division of Specialized Instruction and Student Support. The series supports families of students with disabilities by providing sessions on topics related to special education.

Tuesday, January 4
7:30pm – 8:30pm

Learn more about  sleep strategies and exercise activities to promote improved health and function. This session will share a basic routine that helps to prepare the body and mind for sleep, especially helpful for those children (and parents) who may have difficulty quieting their minds and bodies to fall asleep. We will also go over morning wake up activities that promote optimal alertness states.

Social Emotional Learning: Stress Management & Self-Care for Parents/Caregivers

Social Emotional Learning: Reinforcing Social Emotional Skills in the Home

Learn easy-to-use tips and strategies for how to create a positive home environment where your children are validated in their emotional experiences and given the tools to cope effectively through times of anxiety or stress. Learn simple ways to incorporate social-emotional learning into daily activities such as reading, playing with siblings and friends, and even during homework time. Also, learn more about how attending to your mental health needs makes it possible to attend to those of your children in a more meaningful and effective way.

Mediation and Resolution: Options for Families

Learn about two options that allow you to reach an agreement outside of an Impartial Hearing: resolution meeting and mediation. This session provides information and steps required to set up a meeting for resolution or a meeting for mediation.
