The Beyond Access Series is presented by the New York City Department of Education's Division of Specialized Instruction and Student Support. The series supports families of students with disabilities by providing sessions on topics related to special education.

Special Education Resources for Families for the 2022-2023 School Year
Thursday, October 6th
7:00pm – 8:00pm

This session will be led by Shah Powell, the Director of Family Support for the Special Education Office. 

  • This session will include an overview of the IEP process, special education services and programs, and support resources for families when they have special education questions/concerns.
  • It will include information on how to access support and services, the best contact and resources available and helpful suggestions to foster engagement.

  • Partnering with Cerebral Palsy Foundation to bring you a 3-Part Series on Cognitive Functioning Skills and Supporting Students at Home
  • 2-Part Series on Importance of Communication: Part 1 will focus on Sensory Strategies and Supports, and Part 2 will focus on Fostering Communication in Early Childhood Grades
