POSITION:

ELIGIBILITY:
Tenured teachers with:
- A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience AND
- An overall APPR rating of Highly Effective or Effective (or Satisfactory rating where applicable) in the most recent school year; AND
Current status of teacher, Teacher Assigned, or Assistant Principal with reversion rights to a tenured teacher position, or education administrator with reversion rights to a tenured teacher position.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Strategic Response Team plays a critical role in the support of the City’s teacher evaluation system. As part of this division, trained Peer Independent Evaluators (PIEs) will observe teachers who were rated Ineffective the previous school year, write detailed reports aligned to the Danielson framework, and engage in professional learning, including the facilitation of workshops with other teams, time permitting. This is a two year position with reversion rights.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
Peer Independent Evaluators will report to the Director of Teacher Development and Evaluation within the Strategic Response Team. PIEs will also assist/support other teams within the division.
Minimum requirements for eligible candidates:
- Commitment to the Chancellor’s priorities and a willingness to participate in related Professional Learning
- Committed belief that teacher effectiveness is a key lever for improving student outcomes
- Demonstrated instructional effectiveness
- Fluency in the 2013 Danielson Framework for Teaching and a willingness to deepen that knowledge
- Willingness to travel to schools and meetings throughout the city
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all job-related communications
- At least 5 years classroom experience
- Interest in writing observation reports and the willingness to develop those skills alongside a team
- Effective organizational and time management skills
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience across multiple grade levels or in more than one division or level i.e., junior and senior high schools or special education and general education
- Formal or informal teacher leadership experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and give and receive feedback in service of student outcomes
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct full-period, unannounced classroom visits for the purpose of recording ratings to be compared with school-based evaluators
- Produce comprehensive written reports of classroom observations and meet deadlines
- Work with Strategic Response Team colleagues to inform central implementation support for certain aspects of the teacher development and evaluation system
- Participate, create and facilitate professional learning intended to develop abilities within the PIE role, as well as to inform teacher learning and development system wide as needed
- Travel to schools in all five boroughs
WORK YEAR:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement. (Position commences with 2026-27 school year.)
HOURS:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
SALARY:
Per collective bargaining agreement plus $15,000
