Teacher Assigned A – Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality - Teacher Team Leader

Position is one year – renewal based on funding and performance

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ) is responsible for the recruitment of diverse and talented teachers to meet the staffing needs of Department of Education (DOE) New York Public Schools (NYCPS) public schools and programs, as well as being responsible for initiatives to promote the equitable and quality distribution of teachers across all schools. Research has repeatedly shown that teacher quality is the single most important variable in raising student learning. The Office accomplishes its work through a strategic, data-driven approach. Among TRQ’s responsibilities are to: 

  • Serve as the primary marketing agent and source of information to individuals seeking to become DOE public school NYCPS teachers, to recruit a large, high-quality, equitable and diverse pool of candidates. 
  • Design and manage recruitment and preparation programs, and pipelines for individuals to become DOENYCPS teachers, especially to address subject and geographic shortage areas. 
  • Select a diverse and high-quality pool of candidates to become teachers through rigorous, research-driven, screening processes. 
  • Design and implement high-quality field experiences for teacher candidates in both alternative certification and traditional pathways. 
  • Provide inclusive best practices and support to schools to help them make optimal, local hiring decisions. 
  • Lead pipeline and pathways to teacher certification for diverse candidates within our communities to promote an equitable distribution of teachers across all schools. 
  • Support new teachers with consistent onboarding experiences across the system when they are hired and throughout their first year. 

The Teacher Team Leader(TTL) position is a teacher leadership role wherein coaches are asked to work with groups of schools, supporting the implementation of teacher career ladder positions.  Within partner schools, Teacher Team Leaders facilitate the professional learning of teachers who have taken on the school-based teacher leadership roles of Master Teacher, Peer Collaborative Teacher, and Model Teacher.

ELIGIBILITY:

Experienced teacher leader (Model Teacher, Peer Collaborative Teacher, Master Teacher); tenured teacher; with minimum of three years of satisfactory teaching experience

 

REPORTS TO:

Teacher Career Pathways Implementation Director

 

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Staff within the Division of Human Resources, other DOE offices and divisions; pre-service teacher candidates; seasonal / part-time and school-based staff, including teacher leaders and principals

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Extensive instructional expertise.  Applicants must have been rated Highly Effective, Effective or Satisfactory in the prior school year in order to be considered for this position.
  • Experience utilizing Danielson’s Framework for Teaching as a tool to support the development of teaching practices
  • Experience in formal or informal teacher leadership positions
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively communicate and collaborate with other teachers and school leaders
  • Experience designing professional development experiences for peers
  • Experience with or interest in facilitation of workshops
  • Experience with providing peer feedback
  • Willingness to travel to schools and meetings throughout the city
  • Experience as a Master Teacher, Peer Collaborative Teacher, or Model Teacher
  • Capacity for public speaking
  • Strong organizational, oral, written communication and technology skills
  • Willingness to work occasional Saturdays, school breaks, evening hours, and over the summer to support the development and implementation of professional development workshops (per session will be provided for specified activities)
  • Excellent record of attendance, punctuality and professionalism

 

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboratively conceptualizes and creates a sequence of professional development materials, tools and resources that will be used in job-embedded, school-based professional development of teacher leaders
  • Provides school-based, job-embedded professional development for Teacher Leader Roles
  • Models non-evaluative classroom visits and instructional debrief conversations aligned with Danielson’s Framework for Teaching
  • Supports teacher leaders in the planning and facilitation of strategic, differentiated professional development for members of their school community including early career teachers
  • Serves as liaison between partner programs and districts, participating school leaders and teacher leaders
  • Cultivates relationships with partner schools, school leaders and teacher leaders
  • Participate in weekly professional learning meetings with the Implementation Team
  • Establishes systems for sharing effective instructional practices within and between schools
  • Shares learning and reflections with career development team to inform teacher career ladder development
  • Coordinates support for the establishment and ongoing work of professional learning communities with partner schools
  • Supports the Office of Teacher Leadership team in the Teacher Leader qualification cycle including interviews, reviewing applications and requalification submissions
  • Works with teacher leaders, school leaders, districts and other partners to ensure strong supports across the recruitment to retention continuum
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the team and office.

     

    SALARY:

    AS PER UFT COLLECTING AND BARGAINING

    Teacher Team Leaders will receive $14,000 additional compensation per year

     

    HOURS /WORK YEAR:

    AS PER UFT COLLECTING AND BARGAINING –

    September 1 – June 30

    Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday through Friday

    Teacher Team Leaders will work ten additional days beyond the Teacher Assigned schedule
