Position:

Teacher Assigned – Math Implementation Specialist, High School
Office of School Leadership
(One-Year Position – Option to Reapply – Commences September 2025)
(For Internal and External Candidates)

Location:

Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Citywide Transfer High Schools (Assignment by Borough)

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must possess a valid New York State teaching certificate and a New York City license in one of the following areas. Tenure is preferred:

  • Secondary Mathematics (7–12)
  • Secondary Education (7–12)
  • Students with Disabilities (7–12)
  • English to Speakers of Other Languages (7–12), including bilingual

Selection Criteria:

  • At least eight years of successful teaching experience, with significant experience in middle or high school mathematics
  • A minimum of three consecutive years of Satisfactory, Effective, or Highly Effective ratings
  • Strong knowledge of teacher development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building conceptual understanding in mathematics
  • Proven experience implementing a standards-based math curriculum or program
  • Success collaborating with professional staff on math instruction, curriculum, and assessment
  • Demonstrated initiative in challenging situations resulting in positive outcomes
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a math coach or in a similar instructional support role
  • Familiarity with research-based core math instruction, differentiated strategies, and data-driven decision-making
  • Knowledge of Imagine Learning Illustrative Math
  • Understanding of national, state, and NYCPS math standards and instructional frameworks
  • Ability to communicate and apply best practices for effective teacher and leader implementation
  • Experience providing in-class support, collaborative planning, and professional learning
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to clearly present instructional data

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Math Implementation Specialist for High School supports school teams through professional learning, coaching, and collaborative planning aligned to NYCPS priorities.

  • Conduct math instructional needs assessments during the 2025–2026 school year
  • Support teachers, teams, and administrators across high schools using NYCPS’s Mathematics Office framework
  • Collaborate with district and school leadership to develop a shared vision and action plan
  • Facilitate and lead professional learning in math content and instructional strategies
  • Promote best practices in math pedagogy, instruction, and assessment aligned to curriculum
  • Engage teams in data-driven conversations around student work and instructional materials
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess school progress and impact
  • Develop customized action plans for each school focused on capacity-building and sustainability
  • Facilitate intervisitation and shared learning opportunities
  • Utilize and reflect on implementation tools provided
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support activities and outcomes
  • Collaborate with other specialists to share feedback and refine approaches
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to review goals, progress, and evidence of impact
  • Participate in team meetings and NYCPS-provided professional learning
  • Attend summer training to deepen content knowledge and curriculum fluency

Hours:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Work Year:

School Year (September 5, 2025 – June 30, 2026), plus five additional days during winter, spring, or summer recess as determined by supervisor
