Chancellor Carranza Announces Appointment of Lindsey Oates as Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer, Oates will oversee the DOE’s $25 billion annual operating budget and the allocation of resources across all schools and programs.

NEW YORK – Chancellor Richard A. Carranza today announced the appointment of Lindsey Oates as Chief Financial Officer. Oates began at the DOE in 2014 and previously served as Deputy Chief Financial Officer.

As Chief Financial Officer, Oates will oversee the DOE’s $25 billion annual operating budget and the allocation of resources across all schools and programs.

“Lindsey is a seasoned public servant who has held multiple roles where she carefully managed City resources to support New Yorkers, and I could not be more excited to work alongside her,” said Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza. “She’s been a key part of our efforts to raise the Fair Student Funding floor for all schools and ensure we have the resources to implement our Equity and Excellence initiatives.”

Prior to joining the DOE as Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Oates worked as an Assistant Director at the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, managing budgets for the city’s portfolio of criminal justice agencies including the NYPD, DOC and the city’s district attorneys’ offices. She also previously worked at the NYC Human Resources Administration and at the King County Office of Management and Budget in Seattle, WA. A graduate of Syracuse University, Oates also earned a Master of Public Administration from Cornell University, with a focus on Public Policy and Government.
