New York City Public Schools Launches 20th Annual School Survey

Families, teachers, and students grades 6 through 12 are encouraged to share feedback.

NYC School Survey opens February 9 and runs through April 1.

 

NEW YORK, NY – Today New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) launched the 20th annual NYC School Survey, reaffirming its commitment to engaging with every school community through meaningful feedback from families, students and educators. 

"As both a New York City Public Schools parent and lifelong educator, I understand the value of hearing from our families, students and educators,” said Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels. “For two decades, the School Survey has been an essential tool in helping us understand what is working in our schools and where we need to improve. I encourage everyone to participate – your feedback directly shapes the decisions we make to build a stronger, safer, and more supporting learning environment for all our students.” 

The NYC School Survey helps school leaders understand what members of their community think about the learning environment in their schools and informs improvements to schools and programs. Survey data is also incorporated into NYCPS’s School Quality Reports, which provides school communities with a clear, concise picture of the quality of each school.  

The survey is available online in 13 languages and is open through April 1 to families and teachers, as well as students in grades 6 through 12. Families will also receive a hard copy of the survey from their school. 

This year, NYCPS has reformatted the student survey to be more concise and user-friendly for young learners, while the family and educator surveys remain mostly unchanged. Families, students, and staff can take the NYC School Survey by going to http://www.nycschoolsurvey.org.   

  • Parents/Guardians will enter a lowercase “f” and their child’s nine-digit OSIS number as the survey code (e.g., f123456789) to complete their unique survey.   
  • Student OSIS ID numbers can be found on report cards or student ID cards.  
  • Families should reach out to their child’s school if they need support identifying their child’s OSIS Identification Number.  
  • Students will enter a lowercase “s” and their OSIS ID number to access the survey (e.g., s123456789). 
  • Families with children at early childhood education programs will receive a unique access code from your child’s program. 
  • Teachers and Staff will enter a unique access code that they will receive from their school. 

Families can also take the survey by logging on to their NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) Portal, where they can also view their student’s grades, test scores, and more.   

Survey results will be shared with school staff in the summer to support planning for the coming school year and will be released publicly later in the year.
