The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

Have A Smooth Ride Back to School with Your Student OMNY Card

The Student OMNY Card is back for 2025!

OMNY Cards are the fastest, easiest, and best way for New Yorkers to get around, and just like last year, they’re available for FREE for NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) students across all five boroughs! Student OMNY cards provide more rides with fewer limitations than ever before. Our students can use their Student OMNY Card to:

Ride MTA subways and local buses for free, up to four times a day with one easy tap.
Take public transportation where you need to go all day long—not just during certain hours.
Tap to ride all day, every day of the week, even during weekends, holidays, and summer break.
Make free and easy transfers between subways and buses or from bus to bus within two hours of your first tap.

Getting Your Student OMNY Card

Student OMNY Cards will be distributed to eligible students beginning the first day of school, September 4 or shortly thereafter.

We recommend keeping your card in a plastic sleeve or placing it in a cell phone case or wallet to prevent your card from getting damaged. Your card could malfunction if you bend it or keep it at the bottom of your backpack. If your card does stop working, let a station agent or bus operator know for help, and ask your school about getting a replacement if the issues continue.

If your card gets lost or stolen, notify your school right away so they can deactivate it and get you a new one. Remember: this card is only for you. It cannot be shared, sold, or used by anyone else, including family members.

Once you receive your OMNY card, don’t forget to always tap before you ride! Even though it’s free to use, tapping helps the MTA track ridership and improve service for riders like you. Letters from your school or principal will not be accepted as a way to access subways and buses—you’ll need to make sure you bring your card with you.
