Update on the Big Apple Awards for School Year 2025-2026
For over a decade, the Big Apple Awards have celebrated the excellence, leadership, and impact of NYC Public School’s teachers. As we look toward the future, we are entering a dedicated design phase to evolve how we recognize outstanding educators and elevate teacher voice in the NYC Public School System.
What to expect during the 2025-26 School Year:
- A New Design Process: To ensure our Big Apple Awards reflect the evolving needs of our schools and students, this design phase will take the place of the traditional nomination cycle for school year 2025-26.
- Active Alumni & Fellows: While a new cohort will not be selected this year, our current fellows and alumni will remain active leaders, driving impact through storytelling, partnerships, and citywide engagement.
- Looking Ahead: These efforts are laying the groundwork for a dynamic relaunch in the 2026–27 school year.
More information will be shared here in the coming months. Stay tuned!
What are the Big Apple Awards?
The Big Apple Awards recognize and celebrate New York City teachers who:
- Inspire students to be their best selves, dream, and advocate for their future
- Model equitable learning with high expectations for the diverse and dynamic needs of all students
- Affirm students’ identities, unique gifts, and genius
- Enrich their school communities by partnering with families, community members, and community-based organizations
By honoring these teachers, we recognize all those who go above and beyond to serve our students and families!
During the school year, 10 Big Apple Award recipients will have the opportunity to apply to participate in the Big Apple Fellowship, which includes engagement in leadership development sessions, professional learning communities, and conversations with the Chancellor.
