The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning early Sunday, January 25 through Monday, January 26. Additionally, NYC Emergency Management has issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory Sunday, January 25 through Monday, January 26.

Due to expected severe weather conditions, all New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) buildings are closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. All previously scheduled instruction for City public school students will take place remotely, and all afterschool programs, Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) activities, adult education classes, and YABC programs are cancelled. Additionally, for safety reasons, yellow bus service for charter and non-public school students will not operate on January 26.

NYCPS students and children attending LYFE or 3-K/Pre-K programs in elementary schools or Pre-K Centers are expected to participate in the remote learning experiences outlined by their programs.

Exception: NYCPS students who attend high schools and programs that only serve grades 6–12 will not be expected to participate in remote learning on January 26 due to the previously scheduled Professional Development Day. All other students—including students who are in grades 6–8 in elementary and middle school programs—are expected to participate in remote learning.

Snow is anticipated to begin falling in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 25 and continue through Monday, January 26, with the heaviest precipitation expected to occur on Sunday between 10AM and 4PM. We are working in close communication with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) to ensure the safety of our students, staff members, and families in the days ahead.

NYCPS central and field offices will remain open on January 26. We urge staff to exercise caution when going outside and to use public transportation whenever possible.

Your safety is of the utmost importance. If you must travel, use extreme caution and allow for additional travel time.
