Eligibility:

  • New York State Library School Media Specialist (Library) Certification
  • Tenured teacher of the library with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in this area
  • Willingness to obtain NYSED School Administrator/Supervisor Certification within three (3) years

Requisite Skills and Experience:

  • Three years’ successful experience as a school-based librarian (minimum required per CR 90.18);
  • Experience with collaborative planning and teaching, as well as effective leadership practices;
  • Successful teaching of information literacy skills as a part of classroom instructional units and working knowledge of the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum (ESIFC);
  • Experience conducting professional learning workshops both virtually and in-person;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of NYS standards, curriculum, and ESIFC in the development of instructional units and lessons;
  • Experience with Destiny Library Automation System, Libguides, NOVELny, Citywide Digital Library on Sora, Google, and other professional digital tools, databases, and resources;
  • Knowledge of collection development, weeding, library automation, and inventory of school library collections;
  • Familiarity with MyLibraryNYC and proven collaborative programming and outreach with the New York City public library systems;
  • Willingness to serve on library field teams to deliver direct service at Borough Offices and schools;
  • Excellent organizational ability and effectiveness to communicate orally and in writing;

Duties/Responsibilities:

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Library Services, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, will coordinate and provide oversight of various aspects of school library professional development programs and other initiatives undertaken by the NYC School Library System and NYC Public Schools.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the planning, development, and implementation of a wide range of professional learning opportunities for school library personnel, including in-person, virtual, and citywide conferences
  • Collaborate with constituencies within the NYC Public Schools to align library services with schools and Borough Offices
  • Provide support services to specialized programs, including, but not limited to D75, D79, Transfer High Schools, and non-public schools, or provide support services by the Borough
  • Develop, administer, and analyze instruments and procedures to identify library information and resource needs of teachers, students and administrators in member schools
  • Design and administer evaluation instruments to measure the effectiveness of the library system’s programs
  • Provide on-site technical assistance around library-related issues

Hours:

8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., or 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Work Year:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This position is for one year and selected employees will be required to reapply.

5 extra days during Winter Recess, Spring Recess or Summer recess as per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.
