Learn About the NYC School Bus App
Did you know that as the nation’s largest school district, New York City Public Schools runs the largest bus fleet not just in the United States, but in the entire Western Hemisphere? If your child is one of the nearly 150,000 students who uses NYC Public Schools yellow bus service to commute to and from school, check out the brand new NYC School Bus App!
Officially launched in January 2024, the NYC School Bus App will help you track the location of your child’s bus from the moment it drives out of your view until they return home.
This app, which was designed in partnership with Via with the needs of families like yours at the forefront, provides real-time updates and increased transparency, so you can rest assured that your child is reaching their destination in a safe and timely manner.
The reason for this is simple: as Chancellor Banks said when the app was launched, “Every eligible student has a right to transportation service that truly serves them.”
To use the app, you’ll need your New York City Public Schools Account (NYCSA). If you don’t have one, create a NYCSA account today, and then download the NYC School Bus app from the app store on your mobile device. Currently, 75% of bus drivers have enrolled. If your child's route does not appear on the app, it means their bus driver has not signed up yet. Over the next few weeks, NYCPS is working to achieve 100% participation as more bus drivers and families Citywide subscribe.
We expect to make more tweaks and improvements to the app once we receive user feedback. We encourage you to download it and tell us about your experience. As this app was made for families, we ask you to join us on the journey to make this new tool a resourceful one, so that we can work together to ensure every eligible student receives transportation service that truly serves them.
