Position Summary: 

This position requires the candidate to complete five full days of student evaluations.  The position is itinerant in nature, meaning there is a weekly set schedule, with evaluations which will occur in several different locations.  Although the majority of an evaluator’s caseload will be within an assigned borough, cases from alternate boroughs may be assigned depending on the needs of the students.  Assignment subject to change, within the same borough, dependent on caseload and student enrollment.

 

Reports to:  

Director of Speech Services

Key Relationships:

Manager of Speech Services, School Based Assessment Teams, CSET Coordinator

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Priority given to bilingual Speech and Language Evaluations.  Monolingual Speech language evaluations and/or AT/AAC evaluations can be assigned based on location and caseload.
  • Collaborate with school teams to schedule bilingual/monolingual Speech and Language and/or AT/AAC Evaluations
  • Complete comprehensive bilingual/monolingual Speech and Language Evaluations and/or AT/AAC Evaluations including formal and informal assessment procedures and the dynamic assessment process
  • Develop comprehensive bilingual/monolingual Speech and Language Evaluation Reports and/or AT/AAC Evaluations
  • Complete appropriate sections of the IEP and develop appropriate school-based IEP goals in collaboration with school based CSE team members
  • Participate in IEP meetings as necessary
  • Outreach to families, including completion of a comprehensive ethnographic interview
  • Maintain all related information in specified NYCPS information systems
  • Other related duties

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

  • Current NYCPS Licensed, appointed and tenured Teacher of Speech Improvement
  • Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA) in a language other than English
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience providing Speech services in a NYC school-based setting
  • Satisfactory ratings required for last three school years
  • Satisfactory record of attendance
  • Satisfactory record of performance as demonstrated by recommendations and references

Preferred:

  • Experience in and knowledge of a variety of standardized and non-standardized assessments
  • Satisfactory experience in completing the dynamic assessment process
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementation of RtI strategies and interventions
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate relationship between speech and language skills and academic outcomes
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate with IEP team and other disciplines as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel families as appropriate regarding results of testing 
  • Proficiency in the use of NYCPS systems to track students, including SESIS and Outlook
  • Understanding of how to support students diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to articulate relationship between speech and language skills and academic outcomes, quality IEP development.

Hours:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday

School Year (September 10th 2026, through June 28th, 2026) plus five additional days winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT contract, to be determined by supervisor.

 

The hours of service of a teacher shall be thirty-seven and one-half hours per week exclusive of a daily thirty-minute lunch period. Flexibility for earlier start or later finish to the day with approval of supervisor.
