Position:
Teacher Assigned – Academic Intervention Services (AIS) Coordinator (K–5, 6–12)
Division of First Deputy Chancellor
One-year position – Option to reapply – Position commences September 2026

Eligibility:
Applicants must possess a valid New York State teaching certificate and a New York City license in one of the following areas. Tenure is preferred:
- Early Childhood Education (birth–grade 2)
- Childhood Education (grades 1–6) OR Secondary Education (grades 7–12)
- Literacy (birth–grade 6 OR grades 5–12)
- Students with Disabilities (K–12)
- English to Speakers of Other Languages (all grades) (including bilingual)
- Speech and Language Disabilities (all grades)
Selection Criteria:
- At least eight years of successful teaching experience in schools, including significant experience in elementary education
- A minimum of three consecutive years of satisfactory, effective, or highly effective ratings
- Strong understanding of teacher development and adult learning
- Deep knowledge of reading and writing acquisition and development
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based interventions and assessment strategies
- Success in collaborative work on curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Proactive in problem-solving and navigating complex instructional challenges
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Preferred:
- Knowledge of research-based literacy instruction, including approaches for multilingual learners and students with disabilities
- Experience using data to inform decision-making, instructional strategy, and accountability
- Familiarity with national, state, and NYCPS ELA standards, the science of reading, and effective curricular frameworks
- Ability to support and train staff in the use of screening tools and intervention systems (e.g., Acadience, MAP Growth, iReady)
- Skill in facilitating collaborative meetings and professional development
- Experience with organizing student-level data and progress-monitoring documentation
- Knowledge of approved interventions and progress monitoring
Duties/Responsibilities:
The Academic Intervention Services Coordinator works with school leaders and educators to guide implementation of intervention strategies and data-informed instruction across schools.
- During the 2026–2027 school year, support schools with the administration and analysis of dyslexia screenings
- Facilitate data review meetings three times per year in each school (based on district consultation)
- Lead grade-level team meetings to review student growth and guide core curriculum instruction
- Organize and guide problem-solving teams focused on early academic intervention
- Deliver professional learning on intervention design, progress monitoring, and instructional planning based on data
- Lead intensive intervention meetings and provide resources to help teams make student-centered, data-based decisions
- Train and support staff on use of data systems (Acadience, MAP Growth, iReady, etc.)
- Document and maintain student intervention plans and progress data
- Create and manage electronic folders that follow students throughout their academic trajectory
- Serve as a resource for identifying appropriate instructional interventions aligned to support from NYCPS central teams
- Meet regularly with district leadership to review student data and refine AIS implementation
- Participate in central professional learning and case study analysis to deepen expertise and improve school-based systems
Hours:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Work Year:
School year plus five additional days during winter, spring, or summer vacation periods.
Position commences September 2026.
