Speech Evaluator & Instructional Support Coordinator supporting inclusive Related Services

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current NYCPS Licensed, appointed and tenured Teacher of Speech Improvement
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience providing Speech services in a NYC school-based setting
  • Satisfactory ratings required for last three school years
  • Satisfactory record of attendance
  • Satisfactory performance with professional responsibilities including contemporaneous EA entries
  • Satisfactory record of performance as demonstrated by recommendations and references

Selection Criteria:

Minimum:

  • Experience in and knowledge of a variety of standardized and non-standardized assessments across a variety of special education populations
  • Satisfactory experience in implementing best practices related to assessment and intervention including dynamic assessment process
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Demonstrate ability to counsel families as appropriate regarding results of testing 
  • Proficiency in the use of NYCPS systems to track students, including SESIS and Outlook
  • Satisfactory experience in presenting instructional content to relevant staff
  • Demonstrate ability to articulate relationship between speech and language skills and academic outcomes
  • Demonstrate ability to articulate benefits of collaborative practices and provision of services in most inclusive settings
  • Strong knowledge regarding development of intervention to meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students
  • Demonstrate the ability to use relevant and recent research from varied sources to synthesize information in a cohesive manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate with school administration, CSE staff, and other staff as necessary

Preferred:

  • Experience with supporting students with complex communication delays/disorders
  • Knowledge of and Experience with AAC evaluations and implementation of Assistive Technology
  • Experience in supporting a variety of special education students including students in 6:1:1, 8:1:1, 12:1:1
  • Experience supporting specialized programming, not limited to AIMS and ASD NEST
  • Experience with supporting students with feeding concerns
  • Preference may be given to a SLP with a bilingual extension

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support development of a literacy rich environment by facilitating use of explicit literacy curriculum
  • Collaborate with school teams to schedule Speech and Language Evaluations
  • Complete Speech and Language Evaluations including formal and informal assessment procedures and the dynamic assessment process
  • Develop comprehensive Speech and Language Evaluation reports
  • Complete appropriate sections of the IEP and develop appropriate school-based IEP goals on collaboration with school based CSE team members
  • Participate in IEP meetings as necessary
  • Maintain all related information in specified NYCPS information systems (e.g. SESIS)
  • Collaborate with Supervisors and Managers to develop a Professional Learning curriculum based on needs
  • Provide Professional Learning Opportunities (PLOs) to support provision of inclusive services
  • Develop Professional Learning Opportunities for varied staff including Teachers of Speech Improvement, classroom teachers, ASEs, Supervisors, and varied administrators
  • Present Professional Learning Opportunities both in person and remotely
  • Research, develop and prepare materials for professional learning activities
  • Provide in person 1:1 coaching on an as needed basis related to implementation of taught strategies
  • Serve as Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) Mentor, as needed
  • Develop professional learning curriculum for first year TSIs
  • Develop and maintain a PLO resource page
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research-based best practices in relation to evaluation procedures, intervention in school-based setting, mandate appropriateness, movement to most inclusive environments

Hours:

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday Through Friday

School Year (September 5, 2025, through June 30, 2026) plus five additional days winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT contract, to be determined by supervisor.

The hours of service of a teacher shall be thirty-seven and one-half hours per week exclusive of a daily thirty-minute lunch period. Flexibility for earlier start or later finish to the day with approval of supervisor. Requirement to work up to 30 per session days during summer vacation period, starting July 2025.
