Teacher Assigned A - Central Assistive Technology Team Training and Implementation Specialist (Pre-K)

District-based citywide, location TBD; travel required
Eligibility Requirements:
Currently Appointed and Tenured New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Special Education Teacher or Tenured NYCPS Teacher of Speech Improvement
- Working experience providing differentiated instruction to preschool and early childhood populations
- Working experience with implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in early childhood classrooms and school communities
- Experience supporting non-speaking students in the school environment.
- Ability to assess, implement, and evaluate Assistive Technology (AT) solutions in educational settings.
- Demonstrate experience with a range of AT tools, systems and programs, including AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems in Early Childhood settings
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with educators, therapists, families, and students.
- Experience in coaching or providing professional development to school staff in Early Childhood settings
- Knowledge of the pre-school continuum of services, NYCPS special education continuum of services, regulations of the NYSED Commissioner, regulations of the NYCPS Chancellor
- Knowledge of due process rights

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation on assistive technology services, including evaluations, training, implementation support, equipment loans, curriculum adaptation, and professional development.
- Facilitate professional learning opportunities focused on assistive technology, AAC, communication tools, and UDL to support diverse communication needs of early childhood students.
- Provide professional learning opportunities to build capacity of PRAC team staff and other related stakeholders to effectively consider and identify assistive technology resources that support the developmental and educational needs of early childhood students.
- Travel to various locations, including schools, homes, NYCPS Offices, and agencies, to attend meetings, provide trainings, perform evaluations and/or implementation support
- Develop and contribute to the creation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Participate in CPSE/CSE/IEP reviews at various educational and community-based settings.
- Coordinate AT/AAC related activities with NYCPS offices, non-public, parochial, charter, and public schools, pre-schools, as well as external agencies.
- Serve as a resource around assistive technology/AAC/UDL for CPSE/CSE/school-based teams, school staff, families, and partner organizations.
- Represent NYCPS in Due Process Hearings as needed.
- Administer both formal and informal assessments at CPSE/CSE schools, as well as at non-public, parochial, charter, and public schools, children’s homes, and related agencies as needed/occasionally. Prepare comprehensive written reports as needed/occasionally.
- Conduct assistive technology evaluations for preschool-aged and school-aged children as needed/occasionally.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Central Assistive Technology Team Directors.
Hours:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
As per Teacher Assigned A hours: 8 AM – 4 PM Monday-Friday.
School Year (September 8, 2026, through June 30, 2027) plus five additional days winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT contract, to be determined by supervisor.
The hours of service of a teacher shall be thirty-seven and one-half hours per week exclusive of a daily thirty-minute lunch period. Flexibility for earlier start or later finish to the day with approval of supervisor. Requirement to work up to 30 per session days during summer vacation period, starting July 2027 (contingent on funding).
