Position:
Teacher Assigned “A” Middle School Computer Science Implementation Specialist
(For Internal Candidates Only)
(One Year Position)
Location:
Division of the First Deputy Chancellor
Office of Student Pathways, Computer Science Education Team
Eligibility Requirements:
Licensed, Appointed and Tenured New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) Teacher with a minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory (or advance equivalent) rating
Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge of grades 6-12 computer science/Artificial Intelligence (AI) curricula (preferred: Expertise in at least one topic area of computer science such as Art, AI, robotics, physical computing, web design, programming, data science, etc.)
- Demonstrated general understanding of middle school core subject areas (preferred: Experience teaching Middle School Math and/or ELA in the NYCPS system)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate computer science/AI topics into various subject areas.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, deliver, and evaluate professional learning opportunities.
- Extremely well-organized; able to work under pressure and meet frequent and sometimes changing deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- High standards for personal excellence, with the ability to learn quickly and continuously and be responsive to constructive feedback.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with education personnel internal and external to the NYCPS.
- Willingness to travel to perform necessary work duties.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work with teachers in all five boroughs to support computer science/AI implementation in middle schools via various forms including professional learning, office hours, curriculum development and strategies for integration.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director, 6-12 Computer Science Education Implementation to strategize and plan computer science/AI integration into various subject areas in middle schools.
- Manage and/or participate in research and ideation to develop innovative products for stakeholders such as toolkits, assessments, training opportunities.
- Plan, design, and facilitate professional learning opportunities in grades 6-12 computer science, aligned to the New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards, NYCPS’ Guidance on AI, and NYCPS’ priorities and instructional principles.
- Plan and manage computer science/AI learning activities for students, families, and school communities through office signature events and beyond
- Review and explore existing computer science curriculum developed by the CSE team and/or other vendors to provide tailored options for various schools to implement computer science education.
- Collaborate with the K-5 and 6-12 teams to develop and administer a framework for curriculum development and evaluation.
- Conduct outreach and communications with school staff to ensure that all events and curriculum are implemented smoothly from start to finish.
- Assist with operational needs in administration of program efforts, including outreach, registration, and program support.
- Engage with district and Superintendent teams to support citywide computer science implementation.
- Collaborate with other teams across NYCPS’ divisions and the Office of Student Pathways to execute goals.
- Attend and participate in office-wide, team and departmental meetings.
Hours:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
9:00AM – 5:00PM Monday through Friday
School Year (September 10, 2026, through June 28, 2027) plus five additional days during winter, spring or summer recess pursuant to UFT contract, to be determined by supervisor.
The hours of service of a teacher assigned shall be thirty-seven and one-half (37.5) hours per week, exclusive of a daily thirty-minute lunch period. Flexibility for an earlier start or later finish to the workday may be permitted, subject to supervisor approval. Teacher assigned may apply for, and if selected, work up to 30 per session days during the summer vacation period, beginning July 2026.
