Starting Thursday, November 19, 2020

New York City is committed to making free meals available daily for all New Yorkers. While school buildings are closed, students and families can go to nearby school buildings for takeout meals. Additionally, any New Yorker can receive free meals available at locations across the city. 

  • All families and students can continue to go to any school building between 9:00 am and noon on the weekdays to pick up free grab-and-go meals.
    • No identification or registration is necessary.
    • Halal and kosher meals are available at selected sites, listed below.
  • Members of the community can pick up meals from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday at locations across the city. Please view the DOE calendar for more information
    • Meals are not available to the general public at any other time
    • No registration or ID required
    • Multiple meals can be picked up at once

Thanksgiving Meals Available for Everyone

  • Frozen Thanksgiving meals will be available for pickup for everyone
  • 12pm to 3pm 11/23, 11/24 & 11/25
  • Menu: Roasted Turkey with Gravy, Mash Potatoes, Broccoli, Buttermilk Biscuit, Apple Slices, Cookie Treat and Milk
  • No registration or ID required
  • Multiple meals can be picked up at once
  • Sites will be closed on Thanksgiving Day for meals service
  • Select locations will be open on 12pm to 3pm Friday, November 27th

Holiday Service

There will be no food service available on the following dates. November 26th (Thanksgiving), December 25th (Christmas Day) and January 1st (New Year’s Day)

There will be food service available on the following dates from 3pm to 5pm. November 27th (Friday after Thanksgiving), December 24th (Christmas Eve) and December 28th-31st (Including New Year’s Eve)

Kosher and Halal Meals 

  • Kosher certified meals are available at select sites. These sites are listed below and can also be found in the Community Meals look up tool. 
  • Community Meals sites across the city in areas with large Muslim populations offer expanded Halal meal service. Besides these sites, all community meals sites will continue to offer vegetarian and halal certified options.
  • Dates, locations, and menus are subject to change.
  • Sites may be temporarily closed due to staffing issues. Signs will be posted at any closed location directing the public to the nearest open site.

Kosher Meals

Kosher certified meals are available at select sites. These sites are listed below and can also be found in the Community Meals look up tool. 

Kosher meals follow the USDA meal nutrition guidelines and are produced in partnership with a certified kosher distributor. Our kosher meal sites are housed in DOE school buildings and staffed by DOE food service staff. Meals offered at our kosher meal sites are free and available to any New Yorker that requests them.
